Most people don't start dancing because they want to perform. They start because something feels missing: presence, ease, touch, a way to be with other people that doesn't involve a screen or a small talk script. That's what we teach. Steps are how we get there.
At Connection Studio you'll learn bachata and kizomba from the ground up, but also the things most schools skip: how to stand so your weight actually lands, how to breathe when you're nervous, how to feel your partner instead of guessing. We work with the floor, the body, and the nervous system, because connection isn't a move you learn. It's a state you get better at finding.
What we teach
Four layers, one method.
Bachata
Warm, playful, and close. It's the most forgiving dance to start with, easy to feel and easy to enjoy from the very first class.
Kizomba
A slow, grounded, walking dance. If you can walk across a room, you can start today.
Bodywork & grounding
Weight transfer, spinal mobility, and body awareness: the layer most schools skip, and the reason students stop calling themselves "two left feet" after a month.
Nervous system & presence
Breath, contact, consent, and calm. Short practices that make your body safe to relax around another person: useful on the dance floor, and even more useful everywhere else.
Why this works
Nothing here happens by accident.
You start with everyone else.
Fixed cycles start together: in week one, everyone knows nothing. No advanced dancer sighing next to you.
You don't need a partner.
We rotate, so you learn to lead and follow with everyone, not just one person compensating for you.
Rhythm is a skill, not a gift.
We teach it explicitly, broken down slowly until it's obvious. Nobody believes they're musical, until suddenly they are.
Nothing is forced.
Close embrace, contact: you decide when and how much. Saying "let's stay in open frame today" is always a complete sentence.
Your first class
Step by step, from the door to the goodbye.
Arrive 10 minutes early. Someone meets you at the door.
Wear comfortable clothes and clean, flat shoes. Socks are fine.
We start on the ground: 10 minutes of breathing and weight work before any partner work.
You'll learn 3 to 4 things well, not 20 things badly.
You'll dance with several people in short, low pressure rotations. Expect some laughing.
You'll leave calmer than you arrived. That surprises people, and it shouldn't: it's the whole design.
Common worries, answered honestly
Say it. We've heard it before.
"I'm too old, too stiff, too out of shape."
Our students range from their twenties to their sixties. Bodywork meets you where your body is: stiffness is the starting point, not a disqualification.
"I'll embarrass myself."
You'll be bad at first. Everyone is. The only difference is that here, being bad is an expected condition of week one, not a secret you're hiding.
"I'm not a touchy person."
Then this is exactly the right place. You learn contact on your own terms, with clear boundaries and permission to adjust anytime.
"I have no sense of rhythm."
Come to one class. We'd like to test that claim.

Your progress
Consistency actually shows.
Every account tracks how you're doing, quietly, in the background. Not a gimmick: a real reason to come back next week instead of letting it slide.
Show up, build a streak.
Check in each class you attend and watch your streak grow. Miss a week and it resets, so it actually means something.
Five levels, Beginner to Veteran.
Every class you check into moves you forward. No test, no pressure. Just a number that goes up because you kept showing up.
Real milestones, not fluff.
From your first class to your fiftieth, from a 3-class streak to unstoppable. Small proof, along the way, that you're actually doing this.
See where you stand.
Friendly, optional, and city-wide, for the students who like a little competition with their community.

In their words
Students, and the person who started it.
Mario's group classes can feel like private lessons at times, because he notices and guides even the smallest details. His presence is contagious and meditative.
Liisa
Dance is art, and partner dance is art created together by two people. In Mario's teaching, creating connection is central: dancers bring themselves fully and move onto one shared wave. That's what makes co-creating this art the most enjoyable thing to do.
Vaane
I really love Connection Studio's bachata classes, because there's a lot of attention paid to an individual approach here. The instructors put a lot of focus on working the right muscles, and every movement and technique is explained in detail.
Laura
Magnar
"I started this studio because I wanted a place where steps come second and people come first. If you are new, you belong here."
